Decent, modestly priced mobo October 19, 2008 dinosaw Bought this mobo from Amazon along with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+ BE. The mobo allows me to overclock the CPU to 3GHz and remains stable running WinXP/SP3 (did not try Vista). My mobo came with a BIOS dated Dec 2007 - didn't feel a need to upgrade it since everything is working fine.
If you want SLI plus some additional frills, pay a few more dollars and get the M2N-SLI Deluxe instead. I use that for a 2nd system coupled with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ running at 3GHz (not oc'd) with Vista/SP1.
In general, I've found Asus mobos to be stable although their documentation leaves a lot to be desired, esp for people new to building PCs.
Excelente Producto May 27, 2008 Eladio Garcia (Venezuela - Puerto La Cruz) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excelente tarjeta madre, con 3 PCI, AGP. Para los que crean que tiene video integrado, no es asi, el chip NVIDIA es para optimizar la misma para juegos, etc. El chip de controladores es NVIDIA. Excelente producto y de gran calidad.
This board does support SLI May 20, 2008 Shawn P. (Washington State) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
With the people here saying this board is not SLI, only nVidia based graphics cards support SLI currently. The SLI option is for anyone wanting to use more than one GPU, but they must be identical cards, which is how SLI works. This board allows you to plug 2X PCI-E GPUs, thus the SLI in the name of the board. If you think any MB comes with SLI built into it, then you will understand that you will not only be paying for a MB, but two GPUs as well, and that will cost you a fortune.
This board runs great, installs flawlessly, and has been going strong for me for over 6 months. I have not used the on board sound as I am into better performance, but I have heard that it rivals separate sound boards.
I have been building computers for over 15 years, and while I prefer higher end boards for different situations, this one is my gamer machine (current financial situation has gone down hill a little, making the budget a little thinner at time of this purchase) for a middle of the road performer, this board is another success story from Asus.
If you are considering this board, mark it for future reviewing for after you shop around, and then come back to this one, Asus is a performer MB manufacturer, they have a good reputation, and there are newer BIOSs for it available.
I strongly suggest this board for your next AMD MB.
Don't Buy May 19, 2008 BurnedCustomer 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This board has been horrible for me. Have owned it for two years, and have had replaced twice. Great board out of the box, but then as time went on just kept seeing problem after problem. Stopped keeping time, would BSOD, would only start after several tries, until finally it wouldn't start at all. THIS HAPPENED TWICE, TWO DIFFERENT BOARDS! Asked if they would let me pay the difference to get a different model, and was told they do not do that. Asked to talk to a manager and was given the run around, told he would call me back, and then never did. Google the board and you'll find page after page of forums with the same issues. I'm not buying ASUS ever again. Save your money, don't buy this board.
Terrible Motherboard May 8, 2008 Grover Washington 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After rmaing this board, vista 64 still keeps BSODing. Windows xp works perfectly, swapped ram, psu, cpu and still no go on this board. Stay away from this economy board before you get nightmares like I have gotten. Also, very poor control in the bios of changing ram voltages as well as cpu voltages. Max supported voltage is 1.95volts
