It's Okay - 3.5 stars July 4, 2010 ScrabbleMaven (St. Kitts, Caribbean) As a starter kit this isn't bad. I like the idea of the thumbtacks and picture hanging stuff. The tools are of good quality (for what it is) and included is the usual scissors, Phillips and flat head screwdrivers, hammer, a leveler, tape measure and pliers. This list is not exhaustive, but that's most of it.
I was a little disappointed because I expected more tools, and for my purposes I think that the Apollo Precision Tools DT9706 39-Piece General Tool Set might be better for roughly the same price here on Amazon. That kit has a bunch of different heads for the screwdrivers and also includes a precision set for small jobs - that tiny screw on your glasses, removing the hard drive from your desktop.
That being said, for a really basic kit this isn't bad; and the inclusion of the nails and tacks is really a good idea.
How the heck do you open this thing? May 10, 2010 Petite Pisces I just received this toolkit in the mail and it is supposed to be a birthday gift for a family member. However I have now had 3 adults try to open the box and we can't figure it out. The slider is blocked by a small plastic bead-looking thing. I am about to take a razor blade to the stupid thing and pray that I don't cut my finger off in the process. I saw another review that stated that the buyer had trouble figuring out how to open it but once they did that the kit was useful. However the reviewer did not state how the box is opened. If anyone who has purchased this product could help I would appreciate it!
Great basic tool kit for small home repairs, dorm room, and more April 14, 2010 Sparky Jones (Seattle, WA) I have A LOT of tools However, it is sometimes difficult for my wife to wade through all of them to find the things she uses most like measuring tape, hammer, pliers, picture hangars, etc.
After getting this kit we keep it inside the house. My wife, and yes, even me occasionally, can grab a tool really quick from the drawer and take care of business. It has most things you would need to handle basic tasks. The organizer is pretty nifty and it fairly good quality too.
I would recommend this for any office, home, or student headed off to college to quickly and easily take care of some of the basic mechanical needs. I'm going to get one for my office too so I don't have to take my Craftsman stuff up there.
This is an awesome tool kit... March 22, 2010 Larry F. Rogers (Aplace, MA USA) for what it is. Every tool in the set is useful and it is great for those jobs requiring fast access.
I have an entire basement of tools, but it is cumbersome to run up and down the stairs to get each tool as I realize I need it. This set makes a great household set to keep in your utility drawer. It allows me to just grab the set and put up wall paintings or photos, fix the random problem about the house or assemble some of that Christmas Tree Shop furniture without having to make repeated trips to my basement tool box.
The collection is quite complete. All the tools are good quality. The hammer is a bit small, but it works fine for simple tasks. I have come to depend on the set quite frequently and think it a great idea and a good buy.
Decent for an apartment, but it has some flaws February 25, 2010 Adam Wood (Tucson, AZ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really like the idea of this product to have a number of common tools (along with picture hangers, nails, and such) all stored in a convenient storage container. However, this particular set contains a number of low-quality items and has some flaws in the design of the container.
In my opinion, most of the tools are low-quality and could be purchased for little money. Two that stand out to me are the tape measure and scissors. The tape measure is equivalent to the ones that are given away for free by advertisers, and the scissors are plastic with metals strips held in place. The hammer is pretty wimpy, but it would be fine for putting the supplied nails into walls to hang pictures. The pliers are pretty decent, and the screwdriver isn't too bad.
The storage container has some sharp edges, too, and it would be easy to cut yourself trying to get one of the items (such as the scissors) out of the front panel.
The added items (nails, picture hangers, paper clips, and some other things) are a nice touch. It helps to make this kit more useful to an apartment dweller. However, the overall low-quality of the kit leads me to recommend looking elsewhere unless you only need a very basic set and don't mind the cost.
