| Customer Reviews: Combination square set May 5, 2010 Jean Butterfield 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this item on the first of April, but should have read the reviews first. This combination square is a waste of money, I got what I paid for.

Cheap junk February 1, 2010 Jeff (Tampa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Save your money. This product is cheap & flimsy. Save up for a real Combination Square and you'll be happier in the long run.
Get what you pay for... November 5, 2009 William Smith 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this and was greatly disappointed, however like the saying goes, "You get what you pay for!". Not one component is flat or square and its obvious it was made to sell, not for precision. The lock bolt's easily fall out if taken off the rule. The rule is 'wavey' at best. The protractor head's zero's are off by 1/16th and its not ground flat with the rule as you'd expect. The best way to explain it is that its warped with the middle being convex so using it as a protractor is out unless you don't care about accuracy. The square and 45 head is off by about 1/32nd to 1/16th. The center head should = 90 degree's (or square) and it too is off by 3/32nds and one side is concave and the other convex. This makes it impossible to accurately determine center on anything! All 3 heads are made from aluminum and weakly ground. I had to file the burrs off the edge of all 3 heads after cutting my fingers when I took it from the plastic packaging. The scribe also needed to be filed to remove a burr and sharpen it. The only things on the combination square heads that actually work properly...are the levels. In other-words; if you plan on doing anything that requires accuracy such as woodwork, metalwork or drafting, pay the extra money and get a good one. Otherwise, this is perfect as a toy, a paperweight or for a conversation starter!
Poor finish but accurate - but, hey, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, either January 13, 2009 S. Craig Jones (Georgia, USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
The finish of this tool is pretty much what you'd expect at this price, but that doesn't mean that it is not good or usable. The ruler is thick stainless steel with inches on one side and millimeters on the other, cleanly and precisely etched. The heads (square, protractor and center) are aluminum. While accurate, they are not of the best finish. Mine has some small scratches on the bare edges and chips in the paint that look like they were handled roughly in the factory. The bubble levels are plastic, but in good condition and they work as they are supposed to. The protractor rule is printed on a thin piece of metal adhered to the protractor, but it is inset and should not suffer wear from normal use. The tightening post/nut for each head are spring loaded, but don't have a retainer so that when the head is disengaged from the ruler, the tightening assembly is a loose piece and the springs might be easy to lose.
Packaging is a plastic blister on cardboard. With a decent storage case, Oshlun should be able to add a few dollars to the price and make it a more satisfactory product. I imagine I will end up building or adapting a case to hold mine.
Overall the product quality is consistent with the price, and a few minor scratches and chips can be ignored since I didn't pay $50+ for it. Even though finish is not perfect, the heads and ruler are accurate and the tool will do everything it should do. If it was unusable it would have gotten a single star - as it is, 4 stars represents the usefulness of the tool relative to it's price.
